As the website name implies, I am a native Houstonian. Born here and spent most of my adult life here except for a multi-year assignment in The Netherlands. Went to high school in Houston as well.
In late 2015, my wife and I sold our house in the suburbs of Houston and moved to a mid-rise loft in downtown Houston. We made this move for several reasons, primarily to downsize and simplify our lives, live a more “walkable” lifestyle and live within a sense of community. I started this website to help others who might be considering such a move or currently in that process and for people who simply want to experience a day, evening or weekend in downtown Houston. In this blog, I will explore the thought process leading up to the decision to make the move, the move itself as well as practical information for exploring and navigating downtown Houston whether it be for a weekend or a new place to live.
I am passionate about the city and want to help others learn to navigate and enjoy it. Given its size and sprawl, it can be a bit unwieldy at times. Hopefully, I can help with that.
